Kalmbach Publishing Co. in December moved Discover’s editorial and design operation from New York to its Waukesha headquarters, and also named Stephen C. George as the magazine’s new editor in chief. Discover has been a leading science and technology magazine for more than 30 years and has a circulation of 550,000.

Bishop comes to Discover from the Reader’s Digest Association, where he was the art director of Fresh Home and Healthy Cooking. Before RDA, he spent more than 20 years at Meredith Corp. in senior design positions at Better Homes and Gardens and other publications. A native of Iowa, Bishop is a graduate of Drake University, where he earned a bachelor’s of fine arts.

Lang was formerly the health and science editor at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where she worked for nearly 13 years. She was a member of the editing team that won a 2011 Pulitzer Prize for its “One In a Billion” series on genome sequencing. Lang is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Kalmbach publishes 15 special-interest magazines, related books and events, and produces more than 30 websites. The company employs 275 people at its suburban Milwaukee headquarters.
