I'm mired in a pile of grading right now, so I thought I'd throw out a new Mystery Volcano Photo culled from the copious reader submissions of volcano images. Thanks to everyone who has sent me picture to use on the blog! The last MVP took a little longer to solve, but Robert Somerville did correctly identify the image as Helmet Peak in British Columbia. Helmet Peak is part of the Milbanke Sound Cones, a series of small cinder cones that are likely Holocene in age (last ~10,000 years). With that MVP, the standing currently look like this:
Boris Behncke – 7
Don Crain – 6
The Bobs – 4
Chris Reykjavik - 3
Robert Somerville – 3
gijs – 2
Doug C. – 2
volcanista – 1
Lockwood – 1
Elizabeth – 1
Ralph – 1
Anne – 1
Cam – 1
gg – 1
Damon Hynes – 1
Marco – 1
Diane – 1
Stephen – 1
MK, Alberta – 1
Kultsi – 1
Henrik – 1
Zane – 1
Rodger Wilson – 1
Robin Campion – 1
Jan Nygard – 1
Cole Kingsbury – 1
Manuela – 1
Phillip Mulholland – 1
Ron Schott – 1
Dylan Ray – 1
Eva Hedstrom – 0.5
Below is the next mystery volcano photo, #44. As you mull this over, you can also check out the volcano photo fail over at Our Amazing Planet - they identified the famous Richat Structure in Mauritania as a volcanic feature. I guess somebody didn't do their research before posting that article. Good luck!
