Hey, who says government is a bunch of morons who can't do anything right? Oh yeah, lots of people. But that may change; first the NIH stops a silly antivax-based study, and now the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has come out with a warning against fake cancer cures:

The Federal Trade Commission charged five companies with making false and misleading claims for cancer cures and said Thursday that it has reached settlements with six others. "As long as products have been sold there has been somebody out there selling snake oil to consumers," said Lydia Parnes, director of the FTC's bureau of consumer protection.

Hurray! The markets are filled with quack remedies. While it's possible a very small (a very very small) percentage do some good, the overwhelming majority do harm. I say this because even ones that don't hurt you directly (like homeopathy which is just plain old water) ...
