Preaching to the Unconverted

And now for something somewhat different. After I posted my article on "Does the Universe Need God?", there were a few responses at the Intelligent Design blog Uncommon Descent, including a list of questions by Vincent Torley. Vincent then went the extra mile by inviting me to write a guest post for UD. Not my usual stomping grounds, but I ultimately agreed, precisely for that reason. Here's the post, which I'm cross-posting below. This might be controversial, as a lot of people on my side of things will say that there's little point in engaging with people on the other side. And admittedly, this is a subject where feelings can be pretty entrenched.
