October turned out to be busier than anticipated, so I almost let this slip through the cracks, but Donors Choose 2011 is going on right now. Donors Choose is an organization that allows people to donate directly to classrooms in need to help support science, maths, the arts and much more. Being a volcano blog, I, of course, was interested in anyone who might want to learn about volcanoes in the classroom. I lucked out and found that Ms. McKay's class in Kent, WA - in the shadow on Mt. Rainier - was looking for donors to help her middle school students in a high poverty school build their own volcanoes (which, according to Ms. McKay resemble Kverkfjoll or Mayon). Donors Choose runs until October 22 - a week from today - and Ms. McKay's "Volcano Buddies" has $210 to go to fully fund this project. If you have the means, please head over to my Donors Choose page and donate whatever you are comfortable to help kids learn about volcanoes. Thanks! UPDATE 6:40 PM EDT on October 16: In less than 24 hours, you donated all the money Ms. McKay needed for the project. Thanks to everyone who donated - Eruptions readers are the best there are!
