The DISCOVER Awards for Technological Innovation honor the men and women whose creative genius improves the quality of our everyday life and alerts us to what's next from the frontiers of human achievement and ingenuity. Twenty-seven technologies—all of which could have a revolutionary impact on society—were selected as finalists.
Winners were announced at a gala televised ceremony at Epcot at Walt Disney World Resorts on June 5th, 1999, presented by the Christopher Columbus Foundation. All winners and finalists are featured in DISCOVER's July 1999 issue. As a special presentation, Discover Online presents full write-ups on all the innovators and their technologies—as well as the results on our online Readers' Poll.
In addition to the Awards, one DISCOVER Awards nominee received a $100,000 prize presented by the federally charteredd Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation.
