August 26th is National Dog Day!
Get Fido to help advance scientific research. In the process, you'll learn more about canine behavior and communication and help figure out whether dog poop can be turned into biofuel. Below, you'll find five of our favorite dog projects. Find 1600 more on the SciStarter Global Project Finder.
Cheers!

C-BARQ
Complete a short questionnaire to evaluate your dog's behavior and temperament. Veterinarians and animal shelters can also use it as a professional tool when working with new dogs.
Emotional Load of Calls
How well do dogs and humans communicate? Do we understand what different dog noises mean? This project aims to find out, and you can help by listening to and analyzing different human and dog sounds.
Pets Can Do
Do you have a dog showing signs of separation anxiety, or have you had your dog for more than six months? If you answered yes to either question, this is the project for you! Take an online survey to improve our understanding of human-animal interactions.
GreenNation
Poo Power! Global Challenge
If you know a popular place where dogs poop, map it with an iPhone app; the results could help identify dog poop "hot spots," encourage responsible pet ownership, and promote the use of dog waste in bioenergy!
Dognition
Do you ever think about how your dog's mind works? Participating in Dognition will help you find out; you'll play a series of games with your dog that will illuminate how Fido thinks and feels.
