Ice Age Giants: Bone, Bone on the Range

Indiana State Museum Indianapolis

More than 13,000 years ago, Fred was just another mastodon going about his business in what’s now Indiana. Things happen, as they do, and Fred ended up dead. Discovered in 1998 by a peat farmer, Fred’s well-preserved bones have advanced our understanding of the massive animals’ evolution.

Now, Fred lives on as a bone mount display at a new exhibit showcasing the megafauna of Indiana’s Pleistocene past. Interactive activities transport visitors to a pre-Hoosier world rich with the tusked giants. Opens Nov. 16.

Hall of Human Life: A New Body of Evidence

Museum of Science Boston

What makes you tick? A new permanent exhibit at the Museum of Science wants to get personal with you to find out. As a visitor to the Hall of Human Life, you’ll receive an anonymous code to enter at stations throughout the exhibit and create a unique profile, from how well you move to how efficiently you breathe.

But it’s not all about you, after all. The 10,000-square-foot space features 70 elements, with plenty of hands-on opportunities to learn about emerging biotechnology and the causes of diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Opens Nov. 16.
