Right now the piece has nearly 800 Tweets, 4 thousand Facebook likes, 150 comments, etc. My editor, Clara Jeffrey, tweeted that it has seen "monster traffic," though I don't know how much--but it was the most read article on the Mother Jones site yesterday. I'm not sure what this means, exactly, but presumably there was a hunger for this type of understanding of science denial. The amazing thing to me is that, while hard scientists have never, ever mentioned this political psychology research to me, it was otherwise lying in plain sight--right there in the academic literature, some of it going back decades (though it has been coming on strong lately). It's really rather amazing to me that it wasn't more widely known in the circles with which I'm familiar. Indeed, I wish that, in writing my book The Republican War on Science, I'd been clued in to it. I also want to thank Mother Jones for letting me do a somewhat untraditional sort of article--kind of a big think piece rather than a reported expose. In any event, the piece is here, and if you haven't yet, do check it out! I'll blog more about it over the course of the coming week.
