During the encounter with the nucleus of Hartley 2, EPOXI took this dramatic picture of the solid peanut-shaped lump casting a shadow on material - snow! - previously ejected.

When Hartley 2 gets near the Sun, it blows of a stream of water ice and frozen carbon dioxide, creating a snowstorm around it. This picture shows particles of snow surrounding the comet's nucleus.
