So, it is now officially crunch time for me this semester - I have one week until grades are due and thanks to the hectic nature of this semester, I find myself with ~18 cm of grading to accomplish in one week. That being said, posting may be a little light this week thanks to the strict deadline I have. However, this does make a perfect time to start the nominations for the 2011 Pliny for Volcanic Event of the Year. This is the award that this blog and its readers bestow upon the most interesting and important volcanic events during the calendar year. Past winners include Eyjafjallajökull (2010) and Sarychev Peak (2009). If you want to waltz down memory lane and see what volcanic events we were discussing in 2011, you can scroll back through all the posts using the "Older Posts" button at the bottom of the main page for Eruptions. I will keep the nominations upon until December 28 - so leave a comment with your top three choices for the 2011 Pliny or send me an email (eruptionsblog at gmail). Look for the winner of the 2011 Pliny and my annual Volcanic Year in Review at the end of the year!
