Impressive New Eruption Started at Tavurvur in the Rabaul Caldera, Papua New Guinea

If the eruption in Iceland isn't enough, a new eruption started today at the Tavurvur cone within the Rabaul Caldera. The images from the eruption show an impressive lava fountain and ash plume from the cone producing ash that could disrupt flights across the region. Ash has fallen across much of the area, destroying crops and vegetation as well, but the Rabaul Volcano Observatory reports the eruption is beginning to subside.
